February Theme:

“Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Matthew 6:21

We live in a world of surfeit stuff that is demanding our attention. Our thoughts, time, and energy are poured into something all-consuming. And for too many students and young adults, obsession becomes a way of life. So often, we give our hearts to lesser things—guys, girls, relationships, appearance, love, popularity, grades, goals, sports, work, friends, and the list goes on. She is consumed with him and he’s consumed with himself. He has an addiction to video games and she an obsession with weight. We are constantly batting with where our attention and energies are focused. Unfortunately, obsession amounts to the same thing in all cases—addiction. Obsession is intoxicating; it is like an iron mask that permits us to gaze in only one direction at one thing. We often begin to neglect parts of our lives we shouldn’t—for one, God. Our relationship with God begins to collapse and we tolerate this atrophy.

God is a consuming fire, a jealous God and wants our attention back. With that said, this month the Remnant presents Obsessed. We will be focusing on leaving behind the thoughts, actions, and stuff that so easily gets between us and God. We will identify the unhealthy affections in our lives and pointing them to God to be set free from them. We will make Christ the center and allow Christ to redeem the desires of our hearts. When we put God in His proper place, everything else goes to its proper place as well. And the result is a life rightly consumed with God.
