#RMNTnight - Free Indeed

Jesus said to those who had come to believe in Him if they were truly His disciples then they will know the truth and “the truth shall make you free.” Free from what? The opposite of being free is being bound, captive, conquered, enslaved, caged, chained, and imprisoned, and that’s just to name a few. So what are we enslaves to? You might say, “I’m not a slave to anyone.” In fact, we're Americans, right? We live in the “land of the free.” We have liberty to live our lives how we please, right? We make our own decisions, more or less. We chose what we want to eat, wear, watch, work harder or work less, go to school, or relax. We are already free, right?

However, Jesus was speaking of a different kind of freedom, a freedom that can only be found in Him. In fact, Jesus says those you choose a life of sin aren't free; they are a slave to sin. And a slave has no permanent place in the family. Wait, that means we are all slaves to sin because we are all sinners. We all carry the chains of sin, pain, hurt, burdens, and struggles. We've all got ghosts from our past, whether they’re self-inflicted wounds or pain imposed by others. Some of us deal with powerful addictions and others deal with brokenness. We are all in the same boat that’s sinking in a reality that suffocates our joy, peace, and freedom.

But wait, Jesus then says a son and daughter belongs forever, so "if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” This is interesting, if we chose to believe in Him and became His disciple, they why do we continue to fight a fight that has already been won? If we are a son and daughter of our Heavenly Father, then we are free. Remember Christ paid for our freedom on the cross. He made us new creatures in Him. He washed away our sins, transforming us from slaves to His own. So ask yourself this question: Why do we still carry so many chains when we're meant to live in freedom? He gave us victory over all things that bind us—we are free indeed! With that said, this month the Remnant presents Free Indeed. This month we will be focusing on understanding what it means to be a son and daughter of Christ, we are more than conquers, and living and embracing a victorious life.
